Foresta di Luci
For the open-studio/exhibition “Foresta di Luci” at the Immagineria space, I presented an artwork that reflected the theme of lights and sounds, as closely as possible to my love for both fields. Over the time, I have collected many videos and sounds from both nature and human-made sources. As a result, the artwork was born from a desire to express acoustically the discomfort and chaos in my head, while also highlighting the clear distinction of sounds, from the most pounding to the most fragile. In order to achieve this, I decided to divide the audio into three devices, with two pairs of headphones each.
The main audio, entitled ‘I Warm Up My Voice - The Last 10 Years of My Life - In My Head’, consists of a chaos of repetitions and vocal exercises overlaid with other external sounds.
On the left device, the sound of a stove with crackling fire adds to the ambiance, but easily confusable with subjective interpretations and associations.
On the right device a sound of a faint, almost imperceptible beat, made by a hand tapping on wood, that forced the listening attention.
The voice as a light, while the beat and the stove serve as natural constants.
In parallel with the sound, a video was projected onto a roll of paper enclosing the space, creating a small listening shelter. Two projectors connected to the same video pointed behind the paper to show a purely accompanying and non-distracting video, depicting nature and light in different forms recorded by me during the last years..
