PROBOSCIDE
PROBOSCIDE is a performance that explores the voice as a raw, resonant material, shaped through analog intervention. At the core of this work is a fascination with sound as a physical presence. The performance investigates the natural harmonics and modularity of the voice, allowing layers of vibration to emerge and transform in real time.A key element of the piece is an electrician’s tube, a simple yet effective tool that modifies the vocal timbre without digital processing. By interacting with the tube, the voice produces unexpected sonic textures, expanding its acoustic possibilities while maintaining its organic essence. This approach reflects an ongoing interest in how sound can be shaped using minimal external elements, focusing instead on natural resonance and the spatial properties of the performance environment.
The interplay between sound and space is fundamental in PROBOSCIDE. The performance is designed to be experienced in an intimate (but not necessarily small) setting, where silence and darkness enhance the subtle details of the voice’s movement. The presence of the audience plays an integral role, not as passive listeners but as part of the acoustic landscape, their positioning influences the way sound travels and unfolds in the room and from the tube to them. This creates a shared experience of deep listening, where attention is guided toward micro-perceptions of vibration and resonance.
While initially conceived for two performers, the piece has the potential to expand, incorporating multiple voices to deepen the harmonic interplay.
This performance is part of an ongoing research into the connection between sound, the body, and perception. Moving forward, I am interested in expanding this work beyond the auditory and tactile dimensions, exploring how other senses (such as taste and smell) can be incorporated into the experience. By drawing connections between sound, flavor, and scent, I aim to create a more layered and synesthetic performance, where different sensory inputs interact and influence one another. PROBOSCIDE thus becomes an evolving space of experimentation, inviting the audience into an increasingly immersive and multi-sensory state of perception.
